MIT OCW
As of November 2007, Internet Institute became MIT OpenCourseWare Program [MIT OCW] Partner and subsequently launched MIT OCW Mirror Site for Croatia at ocw.iti.im.
MIT OpenCourseWare [OCW] makes the materials used in the teaching of almost all of MIT’s undergraduate and graduate subjects available on the Web, free of charge, to any user in the world. With 1,800 courses available, OCW is delivering on the promise of open sharing of knowledge.
The MIT OpenCourseWare Mirror Site Program extends MIT’s open educational reach by providing copies of the OCW website to educational organizations which encounter significant challenges to internet accessibility, inadequate internet infrastructure, or prohibitive internet costs. The program also facilitates continual content updates, so that program partners have access to the latest MIT course materials available.
Responsibilities of OCW Partner
- Host a Web server, and all necessary supporting infrastructure that contains a complete copy of the OCW site and is publicly accessible;
- Keep the mirror site content uploaded and accurate by adhering to the OCW bi-annual schedule and process for content updates;
- Provide to OCW a monthly report of mirror site usage that includes OCW-specified parameters (and preferably collected with the usage tracking software provided on the hard drive);
- Promote the mirror site to at least one major local or national media outlet;
- Provide a staff member to serve as the central point of contact for OCW inquiries; and
- Upon request, contribute to a “case study” or other promotional activities for the program.
With a commitment to openly sharing education from both partners, we take part in supporting a worldwide web of knowledge. In order to make the knowledge even more accessible to Croatia and the region, it is our wish to translate MIT OCW materials into Croatian. We hope to be able to get together volunteer translators and text editors, that will assist us in reaching our objective.
